Nurse Practitioner Care
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse who has completed graduate level education in the form of either a Master’s or Doctoral level degree. Nurse Practitioners are trained in the diagnosis and management of common as well as complex medical conditions. To become licensed to practice, Nurse Practitioners hold national certification in an area of specialty (family practice, pediatrics, adult care, acute care, etc), and are licensed through nursing boards rather than medical boards. Nurse Practitioners provide a broad range of health services, and are rapidly becoming the primary care providers of choice.
NP Care
Nurse Practitioners, by training, are adept in areas of wellness and prevention as well as treatment of acute and chronic health conditions. NPs, in a recent study, were found to be as effective as their physician counterparts in the quality of care delivered to patients.
NPs in Oregon have full prescriptive authority. They manage patients autonomously, and have the ability to order tests, diagnose and treat disease, and bill insurance plans.
